Navigating the Storms – What’s in a Name Anyway?

Here’s an introduction and explanation of the purpose of Navigating the Storms for our new visitors. It’s a review for our faithful readers. We hope you both will understand this better. This week, we will concentrate on the stormy part of our name.

We represent invisibly disabled people, of which I – Connected Carole – am one. NTS exists to encourage the chronically ill and to give the healthy a glimpse into our lives.

Why the storms?

Years ago in our life, Joe and I used the analogy of storms to describe the ups and downs of my life. As storms are a weather phenomenon that can bring good things or devastation to our earth, so were the remissions and exacerbations that repeatedly happened to me. So, it seemed reasonable to call the disturbances storms.

Who are dwellers and observers?

It’s a short hop from applying storms to our lives to using these terms: dwellers and observers.

A dweller is, of course, one who lives in storms, whether the inclement weather happens all the time or is only intermittent.

An observer stands outside the storms but can see them.

Some people – like caregivers – both dwell in and observe life’s storms.

If you are a dweller, you are way too familiar with storms and wish to navigate them successfully. NTS is here to encourage you as well as provide tips for easier navigation.

If you are an observer, you may know little about invisibly disabled people. NTS wants to give you a glimpse of our lives and see ways to acknowledge, support, and help us. To this end, check out Sharing the Load Ministries.

Checking out storms

Now, let’s examine more closely the idea of storms. And we’ll see why they describe and explain the purpose for Navigating the Storms.

Why use the term storms?

The concept of storms fits the life of anyone dealing with unpredictable physical challenges. Sometimes, our lives progressed smoothly, as does pleasant weather. But we know storms will always return.

What does Navigating the Storms mean?

“To plan, direct, or travel over” is one definition of navigate. So, Navigating the Storms implies how to travel through this life. We hope it will help you by directing that travel with the connotation of being successful.

When and where do storms happen?

Storms, in our context, can happen anytime and anywhere in the world.  Often, they can be unpredictable, happening unexpectedly.

Who is affected by the storms?

Anyone can be. Obviously, the storms alter the lives of dwellers the most. Also, caregivers are heavily involved. Additionally, compassionate observers can be touched.

Summing Up

I hope you will join us on this journey as we navigate the storms. I hope I have explained our purpose well.
