What Happens When You Focus on Your Attitude?

One way to define attitude: personal view of something, specifically how you see life. See how invisibly disabled people make attitude choices.

Is your life in a tough place right now? Or maybe it’s going relatively well? Do you need an attitude change? So, maybe it’s time to focus on your attitude.

We can’t change the facts, but focusing on our attitude can change how we react to them.

My 2011

2011 was a very bad year for me. Several big, new problems developed. My biggest problem? My attitude. It jolted me to realize how bad it had become.

I just wanted to give up—but that’s not really an option, is it? You can’t just quit living. Well, maybe you can, but that’s certainly not the right thing to do.

Maybe you can just quit trying, just stay down all the time, avoid people, etc. But that doesn’t work either.

What’s your biggest challenge? What’s the future? Can you focus on your attitude and make a difference in your life?

A good attitude can help you accept what is and let go of what used to be. Then you can move forward in life.

A bad attitude adds even more stress to your already stressed life. It makes you want to just give up, making you feel like, “What’s the use?”

Ideas to help us re-focus on the positives and move forward?

Practical ideas

  • Connect with nature.
  • Apply practical lessons learned in the past.
  • Read a good book.

Medically speaking

  • Find the best medical information possible.
  • Question your doc.
  • Join a support group.

Spiritual thoughts

  • Remember that God gave life, and know that when He’s ready for your life to end, you can live eternally with Him.
  • Pray.
    • Pour out your heart, including how bad things are or how mad you are.
    • Spend time worshipping God.
  • Listen to uplifting music.

Emotional purposes

  • Revisit your idea of what “successful living” means, modifying it as needed.
  • Remember and apply lessons learned in the past about living successfully in spite of the challenges.
  • Unfortunately, you might need to periodically revise downward your expectations of what you can accomplish.

Relationships

  • Be involved with people—somehow.
  • Enjoy your family, if you have one.
  • If you don’t have family, make good friends, even if it has to be on social media. (Just beware and make sure they are credible.) I run a FB group, “Our Connections,” a small group, and Sam Moss runs “Medical Musings with Friends,” a large one. Search for the name of your illness and you’ll likely find a group. Be sure it’s a closed group.

In closing …

Focusing on a good attitude leads to acceptance, allowing you to move forward with your life and find new purpose. Losing that focus and letting bad attitudes take over lead to an even-more stressed body. Which will you work toward?

My answer in 2011? I remembered that three separate times in the past, I had worked back from being flat on my back. So, … I could do it again. And I did — not as good as before, but okay. Jesus answered my prayer and made sweet lemonade from my lemons.
